Knit Today team blog

Ever thought your knitting could end up in the hands of a celebrity, or even a queen? Siina Ostman from Sweden certainly didn’t think so, and yet the pair of mittens she knitted for her daughter, Isabella, started a trend she could never have imagined. Isabella volunteered as a translator during the Winter Olympics, and her uniform lacked something to keep her hands warm. Siina knitted these mittens in a traditional Scandinavian pattern for her, and – as often happens with knitting – everyone wanted a pair! Siina started knitting more, and Isabella was able to give a pair to Sweden’s Queen Silvia at a reception during the games.

So, next time you’re knitting something small for a friend or family member, take a few extra minutes to go back and fix that mistake or re-sew that seam – it could end up in the presence of royalty!
