I love making hats – from browsing through the millions of patterns in books and old issues of Knit Today, to choosing the perfect soft yarn, to seeing it turn into a gorgeous accessory that I can wear when the first chilly autumn breezes arrive. So, I was delighted to find out that I can put my hat fetish to good use when I read about Woolly Hat Day on 22 October!
St Mungo’s, a charity that helps the homeless, came up with the great idea of getting us to fundraise through making and wearing woolly hats. Get together with some knitting friends to sell hats for the cause, or have your work colleagues donate £1 or so on 22 October when they wear a woolly hat at the office. Click here to find out more, and get some ideas. You can also join the group on Facebook at www.facebook.com/woollyhatday
We've got a great men's hat pattern that you can download for free here. Knit the gloves and scarf to complete the set, if you like!
If you decide to fundraise, email knittoday@originpublishing.co.uk and tell us what you’ve got in mind!
