Wooly Hat Day 2011 – St Mungo's

Wooly Hat Day - Friday 4 November 2011

This week we've all been sporting wooly hats in the Knit Today office – from beanies and berets to bobble hats and balaclavas. And it's not just because we're all feeling chillier than usual. It's not even because hats are the accessory to be seen in this Winter. It's because today is St Mungo's Wooly Hat Day!

Working across London and the south, St Mungo's supports homeless people in their search for employment, education and training, and provides accommodation for nearly 1,500 people every single night.

St Mungo's helps homeless people in their recovery, providing safe housing, drug and alcohol support and physical and mental health care. They also aim to prevent homelessness, providing housing for people in vulnerable situations and working with thousands of people at risk.

With your help, St Mungo's can help more and more homeless people to change their lives and get off the streets every year.

So how can you help?

Donate £3 by texting WOOLLY to 70099 (Texts cost £3 plus your standard network charge. £2.95 on average goes to St Mungo's Woolly Hat Day) or donate online by going to www.mungos.org/woollyhatday_2011

Or, why not bid for your favourite celebrity hat in the online ebay auction – you could win a fabulous hat donated by a celebrity.

You could even get creative and organise a wooly hat-related fundraising event with your knitting club or in your office.

So, whether you're snuggling up on the sofa with a mug of hot chocolate and the latest copy of Knit Today tonight, or 'ooh'ing and 'ahh'ing at a fireworks display, spare a thought for those who don't have a place to sleep and think about how you can get involved!
