This fantastic charity was only formed at the end of last year, but already it has produced hundreds of blankets for abandoned and orphaned children in Africa. Set up to raise awareness about AIDs orphans, visitors to www.knit-a-square.com are invited to knit an 8x8inch square. The squares are then sent to Johannesburg, where they are sewn into warm blankets and distributed to the children. The website provides information for new knitters, and has a number of simple patterns for clothing that can be sent. It also has a fantastic forum community, including an active UK group, where knitters can share tips and stories.
