Blankets for cat and dog shelters

Postby stitching_dragon » Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:26 pm

My mam and I knit and crochet blankets for homeless cats and dogs at a shelter in Durham and have also recently given some to Newcastle Cat and Dog shelter too. As well as buying wool we did manage to get some from Freecycle last year, which is maybe a good place for others to try for charity knitting supplies?
I think all animal shelters are desperate for blankets, bedding, towels etc, if anyone can help their local shelters out.
Happy knitting,
Andrea

Do you follow a pattern for the blankets at all. I would love to do something like this, the shelters are bursting at the seams at the moment.
I have a dog coat pattern if any one wants a copy please let me know, I am happy to share.

I think the blankets for animals shelters is a wonderful cause, Stitching_Dragon! To be honest, I never really thought about donating any sort of garments to shelters like that. It's really genius! Us knitters keep up our knitting chops and we get the opportunity to help those who can't help themselves. I would absolutely love to provide a cat or dog with a comfortable blanket.

I'll be sure to call up the local animal shelter to see how I can help. Thanks, Stitching!

Very simple patterns that a novice can do with ease.
