Need help with baby mittens from issue 62 the quicks knits

Postby smileymichele » Sun Oct 16, 2011 1:23 am

[color=#BF00BF]I want to have ago at knitting the cosy baby mittens but my problem is the wool needed is 50g but I have 100g wool, so what I would like to know is do I have to change needle size and stitch sizes. I tried using the 100g and the needle size needed 3.75mm but the mitten didn't turn out right.

Pattern details:

cast on 31sts

work two rows rib k1, p1
work another 14 rows of rib
change to stocking stitch and work even for 12 rows
Now shape the top as follows:

Row 1:
k1, k2tog, k10, k2tog, k1, k2tog,k10, k2tog, k1
Row 2, 4 and purl row
Row 3 k1, k2tog, k8, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k8, k2tog, k1
Row 5 k1, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k1
cast off loosely.

Would I have to change any of the stitch sizes and needle size because of difference in yarn?

I would be grateful if anyone could help me.

Thank you.
Michele :)

Dont worry about the ball size, it just means they are sold in abigger ball. what matters is your tension or gauge.
try a tension swatch cast on 22 sts and knit 28rows it should measure 10cm square.

If you knit loosely then you might need to go down a size needle. try swapping to a 3.50 likewise if you knit very tightly, go up a size.

Good luck, and dont forget to add pics when you complete them.
