issue 67 Country Casual Jacket (page 20)

Postby clotted cream » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:18 pm

I'm having trouble getting the right size for this jacket. The number of stitches for the back will never knit up to the promised width in the size guide, given the tension. The maths don't add up. Have they forgotten instruction to change to a larger needle perhaps?

(The diagram of pattern pieces with measurements is no help as it is just a duplicate of the one for the sail sweater on page 38).

Have e-mailed patternhelp but like some others on this forum have not had any reply. Do you think there's anyone there?
Are other people having trouble with this pattern? Wonder if I should try and contact the designer :?

Hi
I have read your posts about the Country Casual Jacket. I have just finished this project and I am very pleased with the result :D I could not find any problem with the pattern. I usually do a sizee 10/12 but because the actual measurement was a little bigger I knitted the size 8 and it worked out perfectly. The only little niggle I have is that the bottom border is curling a little, but I am going to block it to deal with this.

Love to hear from anyone else that has finished this project, or perhaps had any problems with it.

Glad to hear that you've been successful knitting this jacket jackspaniel. Must admit I've put this on a back burner in case there was a simple solution.
Checking the number of stitches for the back against the tension, it appears that the size 8 is the only accurate one in the size guide.
size 8: 76 st = 19"
10: 80 st = 20" (not 21")
12: 84 st = 21" (not 23")
14: 88 st = 22" (not 25") etc.

I suppose I was just expecting it to be a much more generously sized swing jacket.
Have n't knitted a front yet Deb, but will watch out for problems matching the length - thanks for the warning!

Have finished the jacket and wearing it now - it's really cosy! :P Ended up knitting a size larger and lengthening the sleeves by an inch as I didn't find it generously sized. The fronts were an inch longer than the backs, but I unravelled the last inch and cast off anyway. As the collar is sewn on over this edge it didn't matter that the fronts no longer came to a point. I too have found the bottom edge has a tendency to roll up (especially after sitting down). Did you have any success with blocking? Thought about sewing on a false hem maybe. I've used 4ply wool and linen stitch before to make a really firm band that won't roll. Have one and a half balls left, anyone know if this is enough to make the hat?
