Help-baby jacket

Postby daisychain » Sat May 26, 2012 7:37 pm

Hi all

This is my first project and I've got a bit stuck on the Yoke section of the baby jacket in the June issue of knit today.
It tells me to work the row to the end, working twice in y2rn. I know y2rn is wrapping the wool twice round the needle but how do I do this twice?? Does it mean 2 stitches or double it so I do 4 times round the needle???

I've emailed the magazine but they haven't replied and I can't finish until I understand.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are making a hole for the button to go through, so you need to knit a stitch, then wrap the yarn around the needle twice, so that you have two new loops on the needle, then continue with the instructions, which in this case are to slip the next stitch, knit one and pass the slip stitch over. On the return row, you will knit into each of the two loops, thus making up for the stitches that you knitted together before the y2rn and the one that you slipped over afterwards. This method will give you quite a large buttonhole. If you want a smaller buttonhole, you could try just k2tog, then yarn round needle once.
