Issue 70 sleeveless coat

Postby nelligent » Thu Mar 15, 2012 10:11 pm

I have started knitting the back of this coat and the first section should be knitted to 33 1/2 ins. The next section measures 11 1/2 inches from this point. This totals 45 inches. However, looking at the plan on the project on page 22 the measurements in total length is 36 inches. Which is right?

I think there is a mistake with the conversion from centimetres to inches. The metric instructions tell you to continue until the work measures 62cm, which converts to 24 and a half inches, not 33 and a half as the pattern states. If you follow this measurement, I think you will find that the rest adds up!

Hi can anyone tell me how to up size this pattern it quotes the pattern as a size 14 but the chest measurement quoted is 42-44? My daughter loves the pattern but is a size 18/20. Ihave never had to up size a pattern before so dont know were to start. However the measurements seem to be rather large for a size 14 I wonder whether if I knit the size 14 instructions it will be big enough has anyone knitted it? How big does it measure when finished? I hope this makes sense :D .

My personal response would be to go with the size 14 as it stands. Most patterns these days seem to me to include an excessive amount of 'ease', i.e. allowance made to acheive a good fit over other garments. Although I am a standard size 14 top, I often do either size 10 or 12 patterns to get a good fit. I think the 'to fit chest' measurements are usually a better guide to the size of the finished garment than the dress size indications.
