Copyright of patterns.

Postby HeatherR » Sat Sep 10, 2011 1:23 pm

I was reading about the copyright legal issues of using other peoples patterns, in the 'Your questions answered - Knitting for charities' section in issue 62 of 'Knit Today', and wondered if it would be possible for the magazine to state on the pattern if the designer was happy for their pattern to be used to make money. It would save knitters from having to try to contact the designers for permission and also save the designers from having to reply to the requests. What do you think?

A good idea it would also save the designer having to reply to more than one request saving them time as well.

This is a great idea, they must get lots of requests. I know I contact each designer when I want to sell my makes.

I noticed in this months issue on page 92 at the very bottom in small print this little message.

COPYRIGHT
You may make items from the patterns in thisissue to of KNIT TODAY to sell (unless otherwise stated) as long as you do not go into mass production)

Hope this helps clear things up a little xxx

In order to avoid just this problem I stick to only selling items I have designed myself and only using other designer's patterns for my own use and not for selling.
