Knit some love

Find out how knitting woolly hearts can help disadvantaged children in the UK

It’s great when you can use your favourite hobby to help someone else, and that’s exactly what The Children’s Society is asking keen knitters everywhere to do for this year's The Big Stitch campaign. When The Children’s Society published the Good Childhood (R) Report, the overwhelming finding was that children need to be loved. With this in mind, the charity decided to make love the theme of this year’s The Big Stitch.

How you can help
Use the pattern below to knit a little heart – you can make as many as you like, and use almost any yarn. Get sponsored to knit these adorable hearts, or sell them to friends and family to raise money to help disadvantaged children in the UK. Send the money you raise to The Big Stitch, The Children's Society, Edward Rudolf House, Margery Street, London WC1X 0JL.

How many hearts?
The aim is to make 10,000 hearts, and raise £1 for every heart knitted. So far, 500 hearts have already been made, and The Children’s Society wants you to email knitting@childsoc.org.uk with the number you have knitted. The total number of hearts will be counted on 13 June 2010. To find out more about The Big Stitch log on to www.childrenssociety.org.uk/bigstitch
