Shanked buttons

I like sewing big chunky buttons on my cardigans and jackets, but after a while the button seems to stretch the wool and then hangs down. Is there a way to stop this?

The more you do up and undo the button, the more this happens! A shank button is the best type of button for knitwear, backed by a flat button. When stitching the shank button, sew the back button on at the same time. The back button should be clear plastic or a colour that matches the main button
